Abstracts
Lots of times I don\'t understand abstact paintings. But, sometimes the emotion or the questioning of the artist comes through so strongly even I get it. I paint abstracts when my mood is thrashing about or when a representational work would seem repetitive and boring. Sometimes I paint an abstract in a few minutes and it is done. Other times, building the layers and designing the implicit structures can take weeks. I throw most of my abstracts in the dumpster because the meanings emotionally decay to chaos. Some inspiration for my abstracts come from Joan Mitchell and Gerhard Richter.
